Time was I would post EVERYTHING in my LiveJournal, but lately I've just not been in the mood to throw together an update. Oh well.
The last couple times at faire were pretty sweet, but I neglected to take many pictures.
I had finally met Sound & Fury's new "third guy" Vinny, a couple weeks back. While Phil, the previous "third guy," was really funny, Vinny's really personable. You just want to put him in your pocket and take him home with you. ^_^
So a few pics:
Tappy, the bodhran player from Poxy Boggards.
Shelby!
Richard and Shelby telling a story together for their improv show.
Brandon and I also went to Metal Jam 2007 in Huntington Beach. Lots of positive energy and great noise to head bang to.
This past Wednesday was Brandon's and my third anniversary together. Since I don't really do flowers and fancy dinners, we went to the Star Wars exhibit at the California Science Center. It was really good.
Many of the costumes, props, and such were on display (Brandon and I had seen all of the Star Wars costumes before when they were on display at FIDM). They had an installation that was like watching an IMAX film on the universe, but you're sitting in the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon. The illusion was pretty sweet, actually.
So Space LARP last night got off pretty well, though it seems a lot like the L5R LARP that was going on before (except now it's moved from a country that's a combination of Japan and China to a space station floating through nothingness). Will have to come up with some new ideas of things to do other than voting on measures and trying to influence votes. Since several of us based our characters on the Fireflyverse, I might pull some ideas from there.

Today was the California Comic Convention in Yorba Linda. Like how many great cons start, this was a single room con, in a community center, with only a handful of exhibitors and all of them mostly dealing in vintage comics. I've got nothing against the Gold and Silver Agers, but seriously, there's more to comics that what you can keep under mylar for decades.
Much like my demand to see 300 in IMAX on the midnight of its opening, I had to see Grindhouse as it was meant to be seen--at the drive-in.
Seriously it's one of the most hysterical things I've seen in a long, long time and seeing it at a drive-in completely adds to the authenticity Rodriguez and Tarantino were going for.
If you happen to live in the L.A./Orange County area, check it out at the Vineland Drive-In in City of Industry (the ONLY drive-in around). $7.50 per person and you can bring whatever you want in. You listen to the movie by tuning into the station they broadcast for your screen, not by hitching one of those little speakers to your window any more, so it all depends on your stereo system.
After years of hearing about this show in L.A. from various gamer/faire friends, I finally found out where it was playing and caught their show earlier tonight.
For a show where audience members come up and pretty much larp on stage, it went over pretty well. The only things I wasn't too fond of were when the audience members got a bit too carried away with their abilities and bossed around cast members.
Well, such is what happens when you let people get up and act without a script.
